Imani Winds & Catalyst Quartet: (Im)migration
May 11, 2020
The Imani Winds (“wide-ranging and ambitious…first-rate,” New York Times) team up with the Catalyst Quartet (“energetic and finely burnished,” New York Times) for a program that honors the rich and diverse experiences of migration. Five works explore different pathways, from Cuba, Louisiana, Peru, and Puerto Rico – and finally the African-American Migration of the early 20th century, as addressed in Jessie Montgomery’s new work for winds and strings, “(im)migration.”
Mongo Santamaria — Afro Blue
Jason Moran — Cane
Jessie Montgomery — (im)migration (New York premiere)
Gabriela Lena Frank — Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout
